Great Finds: Americana Week in New York
The Winter Antiques Show, New York, NY, Jan. 22 – 31 The American Antiques Show (aka TAAS), New York, NY, Jan. 21 – 24 Antiques at the Armory, New York, NY, Jan. 22 – 24 Americana and Antiques @ the Pier, New York, NY, Jan. 23 – 24
This English Secretaire Cabinet was in Hyde Park Antiques’ booth at the Winter Show. Made about 1715, it was decorated in the latest fashion – chinoiserie. The lacquered decoration showed hunt scenes, driving scenes, court figures and lions all in pagoda settings. Appropriately, the cabinet had a pagoda-inspired cornice. The top drawer opened to secretaire, with drawers and pigeon holes. $180,000. Going downtown to the other Armory allowed us to go down in price as well. Andrew Spindler offered this hand-made toy of a WWWII aircraft for a modest $65. Andrew Spindler Antiques, 163 Main St, Essex, MA 01929, (978) 768-6045, info@ spindlerantiques.com.
